Sound Barrier Walls
Construction Sequence
Construction of sound barrier walls consists of five stages:

• Layout Surveyors will follow the project plans, referred to as the layout, and place stakes and other markers to direct the contractor as to where the construction must be confined. Surveying is an ongoing process. |

• Pile Installation/Auger Cast Piles Holes are drilled into the ground that are large enough to install piles (or posts), more specifically auger cast piles. This phase is the longest and takes two to three months to complete. |

• Panel Installation Sound barrier wall panels are fit securely between the posts. The concretepanels are then painted. |

• Fencing In some areas it may be necessary to slightly lengthen chain link and wooden fences that connect to the wall to maintain privacy and property lines. While construction is in progress, temporary fences will be installed. |

• Drainage Outlets Water can collect at certain points along the sound barrier wall. To relieve pooling, drainage is provided in these panels. In addition, some panels have fire hose ports to provide access to water should an incident occur along I-595. |
