Construction Segment D
I-595, from Davie Road to I-95 (or SR 7/US 441)
Segment D is about two and a half miles long and extends from Davie Road (just east of Sewell Lock) to west of the I-95 connectors. Construction in Segment D is scheduled to begin in the 2nd Quarter of 2010. Highlights from Segment D construction include: the widening of the existing eastbound bridge structure over Davie Road to the south; widening the existing westbound bridge structure over Davie Road to the north; construction of a new bridge over Davie Road for the toll lanes; construction of new direct connection ramps from the toll lanes to the Florida Turnpike; reconstruction of the I-595/Florida Turnpike interchange which includes the construction of new westbound braidedA braided ramp is a traffic solution to eliminate weaving in a highway system. It coordinates two sequential ramps, where an entrance ramp passes over or under an exit ramp using an overpass structure.
Weaving is an undesirable situation where traffic entering and exiting the mainline must cross or “weave” paths within a limited distance to get to a desired lane or ramp. ramps and three new interchange ramps; widening the existing bridge structures over SR-7; construction of two westbound and two eastbound ramps over SR-7; the extension of SR-84 westbound from SR-7 to Davie Road; milling and resurfacing of existing I-595 lanes; and new asphalt pavement for additional lanes. The work will also include some utility relocation, new signaling, lighting and striping.
